Autumn and with it the classic Google event are not here yet. Nevertheless, the group is already giving an outlook on its latest smartphones: the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. We’ll show you what we already know.
Since 2016, the pixel smartphones from Google have been one of the highlights of the end of the year. With native Android, they primarily appeal to those who like the pure operating system and want to do without bells and whistles. The Pixel 5 from last year scored among other things with a great and compact design, the battery life and the 90 Hz display. On the other hand, the mid-range processor or even the average camera was noticeable negatively.
Accordingly, the question is: Has Google turned the screws on the successors to close the gaps? The group does not reveal all specifications until autumn. You can still get a first impression of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
GOOGLE PIXEL 6 (PRO): THE NEW USP
While the Pixel 5 with Qualcomm’s mid-range eight-core Snapdragon 765G was launched , Google is working on its own chip for this year’s models. The goal: more power and faster performance. With the Google Tensor, the company is launching its own chip for the first time, which will be installed in both the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro.
Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are at the heart of it all. According to Google, this should not only improve existing functions, but also open new doors for smartphone features. Pure computing – i.e. the pure development of hardware and software – is no longer enough, according to the company. Accordingly, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro with the Google Tensor should offer a new camera system based on AI and ML or optimized speech recognition.
In addition to AI and ML, the Google Tensor also focuses on security . To guarantee this, the chip works with a new security core and the Titan M2 security chip . However, Google has not yet revealed how the processor works in detail.
NEW DESIGN – INSIDE AND OUT
While the previous Pixel models were visually very similar, the Pixel 6 models take a different approach. The camera bar of the smartphone catches the eye: instead of accommodating the lenses in a square, they are now located in a black bar that runs horizontally across the back. Judging by the pictures, it protrudes a little from the case. As Google reveals, the Pixel 6 comes with a matt aluminum surface, while the Pixel 6 Pro has a polished aluminum frame. The characteristic Google-G is emblazoned in the middle on the back, as one is used to from pixel phones.
In addition to the new design, Google is also creating a new look on the software side with “Material You”. This was announced together with Android 12 at Google I / O in mid-May. As Google describes, new interactions and animations in the user interface are coming with smartphones. Overall, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro should be easier to use, but also run more smoothly in combination with the Google Tensor.
PIXEL 6 (PRO) CONTINUES TO BE A SECRET
Google is still keeping a low profile on further technical details, the price and the like, so a few secrets still remain. However, the corresponding product page in the Google Store is already online, so you can still deduce a few more subtleties. The Pixel 6 is available in red, blue and black. Judging by the picture, the model also comes with a dual camera. The Pro version, however, offers three lenses on the back. The choice of colors for the Pixel 6 Pro is limited to yellow-orange, blue and black.
