Amazon Returns: You have to consider that with Prime Day bargains

Prime Day is over. Now the logistics machine is working at Amazon and will deliver your presumably numerous orders to you. But what if you’ve changed your mind and you no longer want the goods? We’ll show you what to watch out for.

With many purchases, the proverbial bargain alarm at Amazon was possibly greater than the account balance allowed. Or the goods are not what you imagined. Who has the time to first compare the entire market for vacuum cleaners , televisions or laptops at the moment of the offer ?

Fortunately, that’s not really a problem at Amazon. Anyway, you have the right to cancel your order at any online retailer in Germany for 14 days. At Amazon, this right goes even further: You can usually return an item for up to 30 days.

THE RETURN SHIPPING COSTS AT AMAZON

Order for free and return free of charge with no ifs or buts – this has not been the case with Amazon for a long time. Amazon has strict criteria for when you can return an item for free. There are also differences between whether your seller is a marketplace dealer or Amazon directly.

If you bought directly from Amazon, you can return an item free of charge if it is damaged or defective or if it is the wrong item. You can also return free of charge within the first 14 days if the item costs more than 40 euros. After 14 days, but before 30 days have expired, free returns are only possible for shoes, handbags, jewelry and watches. But the return costs are moderate. Amazon usually only charges 3.50 euros, the money will be deducted from your reimbursement amount.

YOU CANNOT RETURN THESE ITEMS

But be careful: you cannot really return every item you order from Amazon. There are exceptions. These are goods that are unsuitable for return for reasons of health or hygiene. For example, opened creams. DVDs and games for which you have opened the sealed package are also excluded. As usual in the mail order business, you cannot return personalized items either.

And finally a note in terms of sustainability: Don’t just tear open the packaging, try everything and send it back if you already intend to send the item back. Opened or even used goods often end up in the trash when you send them back. In addition, Amazon could charge you a usage fee. If you have changed your mind while your package is still being delivered, you can also request a cancellation of the delivery from Amazon Logistik. The messengers do not even deliver the package, so they save the trip to you.
