Whether car or motorcycle, whether combustion engine or electric vehicle: anyone who drives a vehicle on public roads needs a license plate. You get this when you register or re-register your new or new used car – if you wish, even as a personal number plate with a specific sequence of letters and numbers. The federal government has now passed a regulation that regulates both the number plate and the registration of the car.
DRIVING ALLOWED WITHOUT A STICKER ON THE LICENSE PLATE
In the future, anyone who registers their new car will be able to drive for up to 10 days without a sticker on the license plate and without vehicle documents. This was decided by the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport. But that is just one detail of the new vehicle registration regulation. Because: The entire process of car registration is going digital. From September 1, 2023, all drivers can simply register their new vehicle on their cell phone and start driving immediately afterwards.
“The digital notification of admission serves as proof,” says the ministry. “Citizens no longer have to wait for the vehicle documents and stickers to be sent and can drive for up to 10 days without them.” This means that in future anyone who buys a new or used car does not first have to go to the authorities to register the vehicle, but can do so just do it yourself online. A license plate without a TÜV sticker on the car is then compliant with the rules.
IF THAT WORKS OUT?
“With our new ordinance, we are making approval more digital, faster and cheaper,” says the Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and Transport, Volker Wissing, with certainty . “We want to make it as easy as possible for people and companies: Thanks to the new regulations, annoying and time-consuming administrative procedures are a thing of the past.” That sounds good and nice.
