Apple Watch Series 7: New sensors are not everything

When the Apple Watch Series 7 is presented next fall, the iPhone manufacturer could do without the integration of new sensors. Instead, the space inside the smartwatch could be used to improve a basic function.

A few weeks ago there were reports that Apple would revise the design of the next Apple Watch . The Apple Watch Series 7 should also get a more angular design – the iPad Pro , iPad Air 4 and iPhone 12 send their regards. New reports now suggest that Apple is also planning major design changes inside.

A new technology is supposed to make the heart of the smartwatch, the so-called system in package (SiP for short), slimmer. This would reduce the space required inside the watch. According to a report in the Economic Daily News , Apple could use this either for new sensors or a larger battery.

APPLE WATCH SERIES 7: BIGGER BATTERY INSTEAD OF NEW SENSORS?

As MacRumors sums up, however, previous reports on the Apple Watch Series 7 suggest that new sensors could not appear in smartwatches until 2022 at the earliest . This includes, for example, the long-awaited blood sugar measurement or a sensor for measuring body temperature.

So it is currently more likely that Apple will grow the battery of the Apple Watch Series 7. A similar trend could already be seen in the current Apple Watch 6 . At 1.17 Wh, the battery of the 44 mm model is 3.5 percent larger than that of the Series 5. The 40 mm version saw an increase of 8.5 percent. Due to new sensors and other features, the battery life has remained almost constant over the years and various Apple Watch models.

With a new design and larger battery, Apple could lure new and existing customers to upgrade to an Apple Watch Series 7. However, if you look at the comments on MacRumors, it becomes clear that many users are wondering whether extending the battery life by a few hours has a really big impact on everyday life.

For many, everyday charging is already part of the norm – just like charging a smartphone or brushing your teeth. Only if Apple could improve the battery life to several days would that be a big change, some comments.
