Amazon: The Big Prime Day Lie?

Many online shoppers wait for Amazon Prime Day every year . The time has come on June 21st and 22nd . These days are said to be the best bargains of the year. But are the products on Amazon really much cheaper than in other shops? An analysis now shows how good the offers in the bargain battle of the year actually are.

THIS IS HOW MUCH YOU CAN SAVE ON AMAZON PRIME DAY

The comparison portal guenstiger.de examined the discount campaign from last year. The price experts compared the Amazon prices with offers from over 2,000 other retailers. The result: Amazon is almost always the cheapest. The majority of the promotional goods had the cheapest price on the net from the US shipping giant. On average, buyers were able to save 16 percent compared to other online shops. That is good, but less compared to the previous year. Because in 2019 the savings were still 20 percent . From this one can conclude: the bargains are becoming more expensive.

The price experts at guenstiger.de examined a total of 120 articles from eight different categories. It showed that for 89 percent of the products, Amazon was actually the cheapest provider on the comparison portal on Prime Day. In nine samples, the shipping giant was on par with at least one other retailer. Amazon was only more expensive than the competing shops for four products.

THIS IS HOW YOU CHECK WHETHER AMAZON REALLY HAS THE LOWEST PRICE

Don’t rely on Amazon to have the lowest price on Prime Day. Because the crossed-out prices can also be the manufacturer’s recommended retail price, some of which are significantly higher than the price at market launch. Comparison portals such as guenstiger.de or idealonot only show the current best price. Here you can also see the price history of the past weeks and months. This way you can quickly see whether a certain item has already been cheaper or whether the price has really fallen enormously on Amazon Prime Day. Because even if Amazon is the cheapest provider at the time of Prime Day: The price may only be a few euros lower than the day before. With a smartphone for 495 instead of 499 euros, the savings are not really great.
