Amazon: New Prime subscription at a competitive price

With Prime Lite, Amazon is testing a new, cheaper variant of Amazon Prime. We’ll show you what’s included at a significantly lower price, but of course also what’s missing compared to the regular offer.

One of the best-known online shops is undoubtedly the American shipping giant Amazon . And with its Prime offer, Amazon has also succeeded in establishing one of the most popular customer loyalty programs. Since the most recent price increase, however, the regular fee for this is just under 90 euros per year or just under 9 euros per month . Among other things, there is fast premium shipping and access to the video-on-demand offer from Prime Video as well as current music entertainment via Amazon Music. However, a slimmed-down version could also be available in the form of Prime Lite in the near future.

PRIME LITE LAUNCHES IN INDIA

Amazon has now launched such a Lite offer from Prime in India as part of a beta test for selected users, reports the Business Insider portal . If you like, it is a Prime membership that lacks certain included services of the basic offer. For example, you have to accept compromises when it comes to the shipping speed of goods ordered from Amazon.

Although Prime Lite is also shipped free of charge and without a minimum order value, earlier access to lightning offers is also guaranteed. However, the parcels sent are usually no longer delivered on the next working day. Instead, Amazon offers its users the prospect of delivery of the ordered goods within two working days.

MANY OF THE USUAL PRIME SERVICES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE LITE SUBSCRIPTION

Lite customers also have access to the Prime Video offering. However, they cannot retrieve HD content. Films and series are generally only available in a lower resolution , i.e. in SD quality, and on a maximum of two devices. As a Lite customer, you also have to accept advertisements. Amazon Music is generally not included with Prime Lite, and the offerings from Prime Gaming (games) and Prime Reading (e-books & magazines) are also missing.

The cost of Prime Lite in India is 999 Indian rupees per year, which corresponds to around 11.30 euros. A regular Prime subscription costs 1,499 rupees, which is just under 17 euros. That doesn’t sound like much, but of course one mustn’t forget that the average salary in India is significantly lower than in Western Europe.

NO INFORMATION ABOUT EUROPE OR GERMANY START

It is not clear whether Prime Lite will become a regular offer in the medium or long term. It is also unclear whether Amazon’s slimmed-down premium service could also be launched in other countries at a later date. It would also have to be clarified in the context of current market research whether there was any need for a cheaper Lite model in this country.
