Whether tax tricks, inhumane working conditions or accusations of racism: Amazon is repeatedly criticized. Now a video has emerged that shows terrifying scenes. What is Amazon hiding from us?
No other online shop is as popular in this country as Amazon . No wonder it offers almost everything a buyer’s heart desires from A to Z. Incidentally, Amazon also points this out in its logo with the arrow from A to Z. In addition, the prices usually set the pace for the entire online market. Products are rarely found cheaper in other online shops. But all of this also has its downsides, as pictures from a British television station now show.
AMAZON AGAIN IN THE CRITICISM: THESE PICTURES SPEAK VOLUMES
Whether e-cars, the solar cell boom or the ban on plastic drinking straws that will come into force in July: the world is trying to stop climate change. But corporations that want to grow and profit at any price do not always participate. This is also shown by a secretly recorded video of a former Amazon employee, which he made available to the British television station ITV News . The pictures show how Amazon destroys new and originally packaged goods. From unread books to jewelryand tools through to notebooks, smart TVs and toys: every week, Amazon employees destroy around 130,000 products in just one warehouse. Not only inferior and unsaleable products end up in the shredder. Employees also had to destroy MacBooks or iPads, Dyson fans or 20 containers that contain thousands of corona masks in their original packaging.
Compared to the TV station, Amazon said: “We are working towards the goal of not having to dispose of any products. Our priority is reselling, donating to charities, or recycling unsold products. ”The images, supposedly from a Scottish warehouse, show the opposite, however.
PRODUCED FOR THE GARBAGE DUMP: THAT’S WHY THE US COMPANY DESTROYS MILLIONS OF GOODS
Many might wonder why Amazon is destroying millions of new goods. The reason is simple: for international suppliers who sell their goods on Amazon, it is more time-consuming to have the products returned than to dispose of them. The US company also donates some products that do not sell. In comparison, however, significantly more goods are destroyed and land in landfills, as ITV News has found out. The television station was tracking a truck with goods that were supposed to be destroyed. Ultimate goal: dump.
Amazon, on the other hand, asserts: “We are committed to reducing our ecological footprint and building a circular economy program.” The aim is to reduce returns, reuse and resell products and reduce disposal.
