iOS 15 not only brings many great innovations that can be seen on the surface. Even in the depths of the next operating system, Apple’s developers have lent a hand and introduced new useful features. This includes improvements to the “Where is?” Network, known in English as “Find My”.

The innovation in the upcoming iOS version brings a helpful function that helps to find a lost iPhone even when it is switched off. However, a current model of Apple’s smartphone is required.

IOS 15 FINDS IPHONE 11 AND NEWER WHEN SWITCHED OFF

As reported by 9to5Mac , at least an iPhone 11 or iPhone 12 is required. Only these have the U1 chip for ultrawide band (UWB) on which the new function in the “Where is?” Network is based. After installing iOS 15, the smartphones can still be found even if the device has been switched off.

But Apple goes one step further. This means that iPhones can still be found even if iOS 15 has been reset and reinstalled on the affected smartphone. The only way to turn Find My off is to remove the original owner’s iCloud account.

The U1 chip is also installed in the Apple Watch Series 6 , but the new feature is currently only available in the iPhone. This transforms the smartphone into an oversized AirTag .

Find My on the iPhone remains active even when the smartphone is in so-called energy reserve mode. This mode can already be used for express cards . The smartphone still has enough energy for basic functions, even if iOS itself is not running.

iOS 15 has been available in the form of a preview for a few weeks and can be downloaded and installed directly from Apple . The final version will appear next autumn.
