Are e-cars becoming too expensive? Experts are now predicting that

The environmental bonus is being restricted more and more and is to be capped again by 2024. What does that mean for e-cars and customers? Will e-mobility become unaffordable? Experts now predict this positive future.

Cars with electric drives are still more expensive on average than combustion engines. Since this year, the e-car premium has been significantly restricted and no longer applies to hybrid vehicles. A further cap is planned by politicians. At the end of 2022, experts predicted that electric cars would become unaffordable for consumers. But is that really the case after all?

ELECTRIC CARS IN 2023: UNAFFORDABLE OR CHEAP?

The ADAC was also outraged at the end of last year and demanded more attention to consumers. Not only on a political level, but also on the part of the manufacturers. According to the automobile club, e-mobility should be accessible to everyone. The question: Will consumers buy electric cars even without the environmental bonus ?

On the one hand, many experts share the fear that electric cars will be too expensive and unaffordable for most consumers without the bonus. After all, they have to do without 4,500 euros in state subsidies for new cars. On the other hand, electric cars are also slipping in price reductions. Especially with used cars, customers can ultimately save a lot of money with electric cars.

As Focus Online reports, citing the car expert Stefan Möller, prices are already falling. In the past three months, the prices for used e-cars have fallen by 10 percent, and even more depending on the make and model. Electric cars from the car manufacturer Tesla are also affected by the falling prices. “This happens most directly at Tesla, where there is a clear requirement that production must be used at 100 percent capacity, and if demand is not right, Tesla lowers the prices. Falling demand should actually be expressed in the fact that discounts come again,” Focus Online quotes Möller.

DEMAND FOR ELECTRIC CARS UNABATED

Despite the uncertainty as to whether or not buyers will receive a subsidy when buying a new e-car , demand for e-cars remained high in 2022. The latest figures from the Federal Motor Transport Authority show that 32.2 percent more electric cars were registered last year than in 2021. On the diesel and petrol side, it is mainly SUVs and the compact class that were popular with Germans.
