Bad news for Mac fans: the long wait continues

First it should be in October, then it was November. Now the wait for new Macs should take even longer. If you want to buy a new MacBook Pro, you have to be patient.

After Apple CEO Tim Cook had no good news for Mac fans when he announced the latest quarterly figures last week, there are now further indications of how long we still have to wait. According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman , the launch of the new MacBook Pro and Mac Pro will be delayed even further.

NEW M2 MACS: BAD NEWS FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON

Ever since the MacBook Air with the M2 chip was introduced in the spring, many observers had been expecting more new Macs in the fall. A few days ago, Gurman wrote that after the iPads in October, the MacBook Pro and Co. could follow in November . Those hopes have now been dashed.

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced when presenting the quarterly figures that one would see a slump in Mac sales in the Christmas quarter. This alone indicated that there would be no new devices for fans to pounce on again.

In almost the same breath, Cook said the lineup was set for the upcoming holidays. In other words: We no longer expect new hardware this year. The dream of a new MacBook Pro, Mac mini or even Mac Pro in 2022 is over.

NEW RELEASES WILL NOT COME UNTIL EARLY 2023

While Cook of course gave no further details about the upcoming products, Apple insider Mark Gurman explains when it could be so far. However, compared to previous predictions, the Bloomberg reporter is a little more cautious about specific dates.

With an allegedly planned presentation of iOS 16.3 next spring, which should be linked to the new hardware, there will only then be a 14- and 16-inch model of the MacBook Pro with an M2 chip. Since Apple has rarely announced new products in January and February in the past, Gurman concludes that a presentation will take place in the first half of March.

This would only replace the MacBook Pro with Apple’s own processors after around 18 months. The iPhone manufacturer has been following a similar roadmap with the iPad Pro for a long time. Only when the model with the M1 chip was presented did it go a little faster than usual. Here it lasted only 12 months.
