Deutsche Telekom: 5G network is growing – and being made fit for the future

Deutsche Telekom has put many more 5G locations into operation in the past eight weeks. And the LTE network is also growing. But that’s not all. Telekom is preparing for the future with technological innovations.

Deutsche Telekom’s 5G network is not only growing, it is also being made fit for future applications.

Deutsche Telekom is preparing for the future. And because this year no meeting with industry representatives at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona is possible – Telekom had canceled their participation in the wireless trade show because of the rampant coronavirus early – occurs as a substitute date, the Digital Conference “Telekom Tech Grounds” in appearance . And here everything is about networking in the future. “In the future, every user will not only ask about networking, he will expect it,” said Telekom boss Tim Höttges on Monday in Bonn. That is why you have to prepare your own network infrastructure for the steadily increasing demand. Technological innovations should help.

5G E2E NETWORK SLICING FOR CLOUD GAMING ON SMARTPHONES

In order to be able to offer as many customers as possible the optimal performance of a cellular network, efficiency is an important factor. And this is precisely why so-called network slicing is so important for new 5G networks and associated smartphones. Figuratively speaking, the network is cut into “slices”. For each “slice” it is then possible to provide different service features and quality parameters such as speed, capacity or latency. The slices are completely isolated from one another. They can each be adapted to different customer needs.

In the future, 5G end-to-end (E2E) network slicing could be interesting for mobile games based on cloud streaming, for example. For the best gaming experience, a specially optimized slice can be provided for very short reaction times. At the same time, a business customer can use a security-critical application on a separate slice. Both customers get a guaranteed quality of service, so they don’t have to worry about any restrictions.

TELEKOM IS BUILDING NUMEROUS NEW 5G LOCATIONS
Admittedly, network slicing is a pretty technical thing. Therefore, we would like to refer to a 5G extension at this point, which is a bit more tangible for end customers. It is possible to use the 5G network of Deutsche Telekom at more and more locations . As the Bonn-based group recently announced, a total of 304 new 5G locations have been set up in the past eight weeks. Thanks to Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS), LTE can always be used at these locations.

It also says that Telekom created additional LTE capacities at 153 locations and set up 146 completely new LTE locations in the same period. According to its own information, Telekom now reaches 98.8 percent of the population with LTE. The 5G network of Telekom reportedly access to 80 percent of the population.

TELEKOM AND SAMSUNG DEVELOP “GREEN” SMARTPHONE
Telekom and Samsung have also announced that they are working on a “green” smartphone. To this end, both companies have agreed a strategic partnership for sustainability. The smartphone for the mass market should be designed to be 5G-capable and sustainable. This includes easy repair and a removable battery. More precise technical details are still a secret. It is planned to introduce the environmental smartphone towards the end of 2022.

Telekom is also proud of a new partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the area of the Internet of Things. It makes it possible to significantly simplify the manual integration of IoT applications and devices into the cloud. The complete integration into the solution environment is now done automatically. This significantly reduces the complexity for customers.
