You have been able to carry your vaccination certificate with you digitally since mid-June. This can be done both via the stand-alone CovPass app, but also via the Corona warning app . This is now getting another update, which will be especially helpful to you when traveling during the summer holidays.
You can use the digital vaccination card since June 14th . With CovPass you can easily enter the proof of the corona vaccination, at the same time the German Corona app received the appropriate update to make the vaccination status digitally visible. But that’s not all: The federal government is working on additional functions for the Corona app and is adding a new test feature to coincide with the start of the summer holidays.
NEW TRAVEL FUNCTIONS FOR CORONA APP
With the new version 2.4, you can now no longer just enter your vaccination, but also create a so-called Covid test certificate. So far, you have been able to have your test result transferred to the Corona app via official test centers. From now on you can also request a digital Covid test certificate for a rapid antigen test or a PCR test. This then appears in the app. This works in a similar way to the digital vaccination certificate. This means that your negative test result is linked to a QR code and can be accessed digitally. As with proof of vaccination, others can use the CovPass Check app to scan the test certificate, for example at the airport, in a pub and the like, and check the test result.
The special thing is that the test certificate is not only valid in Germany, but you can also use the certificate when traveling within the EU. This should significantly simplify travel in times of the pandemic. The test certificate is part of the EU digital Covid certificate, which includes three different certificates: vaccination certificate, test certificate and recovery certificate. You can have the respective certificate issued not only in Germany, but in all EU countries, explains the EU Commission .
HOW TO GET THE TEST CERTIFICATE
As mentioned, the Covid test certificate can be requested for a PCR and rapid test. To get it, you have to save your test in the Corona app and register it. With the update to version 2.4, the “Register test” and “Scan QR code” fields can be found on the app’s start screen. Once you have read in the code, another window opens in which you can request or reject the test certificate. If the test result is negative, the app shows the certificate to the app immediately. The test certificate also reveals other data, such as the date and time the test was carried out. For PCR tests, users must also provide their date of birth. So that the test certificate cannot be forged, each one contains an individual electronic signature.
However, you should make sure that your rapid test center also supports digital evidence. Because not every test site offers the option of entering the test in the Corona app. In this case, you cannot request a digital test certificate. When traveling, you should also find out in advance which tests the respective country accepts. A rapid antigen test is not sufficient as evidence for every EU member state. Germany also specifies a period of validity of 48 hours (rapid test) and 72 hours (PCR test) – but other countries can also handle this differently.
