Disney+ is launching an ad-supported model. Users expected a price reduction for this – but you probably wait in vain for this. Now there is new bad news for Disney + users. We’ll show you what it’s all about.
Streaming subscriptions at more favorable conditions are currently springing up like mushrooms. Both Netflix and Disney+ are planning the new subscription models , which are due to start later this year. However, customers then have to put up with advertising for the lower costs. And some other functions will probably be lost – even with Disney +.
CHEAP DISNEY+ SUBSCRIPTION: LESS MONEY, FEWER FEATURES
Netflix ‘s new advertising-financed subscription model is scheduled to start on November 3rd . The model will not be long in coming at Disney+ either: it will be available from December, at least in the USA . Even before the official market launch, however, it is now leaking that Disney is also making cuts on the model.
MacRumors journalist Steve Moser found out that users of the cheap model have to do without both SharePlay and GroupWatch. He is referring to code material he shares via Twitter. The streaming service seems to be primarily eliminating social functions, because with SharePlay and GroupWatch you can stream series or films together with your friends – and from afar. That would then be reserved for the premium accounts.
It remains to be seen whether Disney+ will actually remove the functions. But that is not unlikely. If you look at Netflix, the competition is also eliminating some functions in the advertising model , such as the ability to download content and watch it offline. The streaming quality also decreases.
ADVERTISING ON THE STREAMING SERVICE: DISNEY + PLANS
It is unclear when Disney+’s advertising-financed model will start in Germany. Pricing outside of the US has not yet been announced either. However, it is already clear that the subscription will not make Disney + cheaper . Instead, the streaming service charges $7.99 for the advertising model, which is currently the base rate. In addition, the price for the premium model has increased from $7.99 to $10.99 per month. This also makes the annual tariff more expensive, which then costs around 110 instead of just under 80 US dollars a year.
In addition to advertising , Disney+ is also testing live streaming , specifically attacking linear television . The show “Dancing with the Stars”, which is the American counterpart to “Let’s Dance”, has already been successfully broadcast in the USA.
