FritzBox updates: These AVM routers get the update to FritzOS 7.28

AVM has announced new updates for its Fritz boxes. With software version 7.28, a new round is starting after the previous software 7.27 was primarily a security update. After the FritzBox 7590, it continues with four more routers.

AVM FritzBox 7530 gets an update

The FragAttack update was one of the exciting topics at AVM over the past few months. The software version 7.27 was mainly distributed against the malware and the attack on Fritz boxes . Practically all Fritz boxes were supplied with 7.27 in several steps . But after there were also rumors about a “ cheap router ” from AVM, things are now back on a quieter path. And that includes comprehensive updates on the manufacturer’s popular models.

AVM UPDATES THESE FRITZ BOXES

The new software from AVM bears the version number 7.28 and initially came to the customer for the two top models FritzBox 7590 and 7590 AX. As with such rather small updates, AVM has not placed a special focus, but mainly fixes bugs and other problems. There are also improvements in WiFi and smart home control. Finally, AVM fixed a bug that caused problems with Apple’s macOS Big Sur version 11.3. Network drive connections could not be established via USB .

But AVM did not only consider the two very popular FritztBoxes. A total of six other models have now been provided with the update to FritzOS 7.28. With the following models you should toggle your FRitzBox surface and the update once:

FritzBox 7530
FritzBox 7583 and 7583 VDSL
Entry-level FritzBox 4040
FritzBox 6890 LTE
FritzBox 6850 LTE

HOW TO INSTALL THE UPDATES

The easiest way to install the latest FritzOS software for your router is directly via the browser’s user interface. You can reach it by entering the following address in your

browser window with an active WiFi connection : http://fritz.box/

After entering your password, click on “System” on the left in the main menu and select the item “Update” in the submenu that opens. In the lower right corner of the browser window you can then click on “Find new Fritz! OS” and then start the update process.

Please note that your WiFi and Internet connection will be briefly interrupted during the update process. You will no longer be able to surf the Internet during this time. Your FritzBox will automatically restore the internet connection after installing the latest software patch . Such an update usually takes no longer than five minutes.
