Apple’s switch to in-house chips is in full swing. After the first Macs with the M1 processor were presented last November, various other models are still waiting for the update. You can find out when these will supposedly appear here.
Apple has been offering the first Macs with its own M1 chip since November . In the future, Apple computers will no longer be delivered with an Intel processor. The only exception could be a final update for the high-end Mac, the Mac Pro, as it is.
As reported by 9to5Mac , Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman summarized the upcoming updates of Apple’s Mac lineup in his current newsletter . Here is an overview of which new Macs he expects and when.
APPLE MACBOOK PRO AND MAC MINI: WHEN ARE THE NEXT UPDATES COMING?
According to Gurman, the new models of the MacBook Pro with an M1X processor will appear “in the coming months”. This includes a 14-inch and a 16-inch model, according to previous rumors. References to the features and the new design gave, among other things, alleged documents from an Apple supplier. A look at Mac history suggests that Apple could hold an event for the new MacBook Pro in October or November.
According to Gurman, a high-end model of the Mac mini will “follow shortly thereafter”. So far, Apple’s Mac mini has only been available as an entry-level model with an M1 chip. The optionally better equipped version from 2018 with an Intel chip is still available. This can be ordered with up to 64 GB of RAM and offers four Thunderbolt 3 ports.
NEW IMAC AND MAC PRO NOT UNTIL 2022
The usually well-informed Bloomberg reporter expects the iMac to be completely converted in 2022. The company recently presented a 24-inch model with an M1 chip . Apple’s regular all-in-one Mac in 27-inch format still has an Intel chip. Apple withdrew the iMac Pro with Xeon processor a few months ago . The complete conversion of the iMac should be completed by the end of next year.
Gurman also predicts a new MacBook Air and a redesigned and smaller Mac Pro for the coming year. The first leaks showed render images of the upcoming entry-level notebook . According to these, it should be available in several colors.
When announcing the M1 chips, Apple spoke of a changeover over a period of two years. The first M1 Macs were presented in November 2020, which would give the company until November 2022.
