Genshin Impact: is it the best open-world mobile game?

Genshin Impact is a real all-rounder. The fantasy action role-playing game is available free of charge for PC, Playstation consoles and as a mobile game. A switch version has also been announced. The game is clearing up the market, especially as a mobile game. What makes the experience so unique?

In “Genshin Impact” you are looking for your twin.

The game by the Chinese manufacturer miHoYo manages to inspire its followers with a predominantly positive response and a large financial return. Not least because players are presented with a huge game world and a heartwarming story, as one is otherwise used to from large open-world titles – and all without having to pay a cent for it. It is not without reason that “Genshin Impact” has been declared the largest international game of all Chinese video games. As one of the most commercially successful smartphone games, it even surpasses hypes like the one about Pokémon Go . This comes about through the “pay-to-win” acquisition of characters and items, which accelerate the progress of the game.

ANIME MEETS THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: BREATH OF THE WILD

It’s no secret that the gaming experience of “Genshin Impact” is very similar to “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” . That’s why it’s easy to name both games in the same breath. Even so, Genshin Impact deserves the attention it’s getting right now. The story, the loving characters and the combat system have their very own beautiful style.

Together with the bard “Venti” you try to save the dragon “Dvalin”.

The world of Teyvat by Genshin Impact is huge and offers the typical almost limitless possibilities of an open world game. With time, you can no longer stop discovering secrets and treasures that are protected by monsters. What is particularly impressive is that each area reflects its cultural heritage. So the player starts in the nation moon city. You will quickly notice that some names seem very familiar. It is based, for example, on knighthood in Germany. Liyue, on the other hand, reflects the People’s Republic of China and is so impressively designed that you can’t see enough. Each region is also controlled by a deity who in return is worshiped by the residents.

“GENSHIN IMPACT” USES THE COMBAT SYSTEM TO THE FULL

The deities are each associated with one of the seven elementary abilities. By handing over a gem, a character can also make these powers their own. Quickly in the game there is the possibility to choose between different characters and their elementary abilities. Amber, Knight of Ordo Favonius in Mondstadt, is a long-range fighter of the Pyro Element who shoots fire at her opponents with a bow and arrow. As Rittmeister of Ordo Favonius, Kaeya knows how to freeze opponents in close combat with the sword with his Cryo Element.

In combat, you can assemble a team of fighters with different skills to switch in battle. The principle is effective and real fun. Since opponents also use various elementary powers as weapons, they must be defeated with the complementary powers. One of the biggest pluses of the game for me is the combat system, as it is very enjoyable despite the limited possibilities of a mobile app.

In search of your twin brother or sister, who was kidnapped by a mysterious goddess, you end up with your friend Paimon in Mondstadt. On your journey you will get to know the world and its inhabitants and in the end you will no longer only fight for your family, but also for them. The characters are lovingly integrated into the action and make you want to get to know them better. For sureEveryone sees it differently, but for me the joke in the interaction between the characters was very charming and never cheesy. What could be annoying to others from time to time has warmed my heart up a bit. In the world, too, there are tasks and people who need your help on every corner. Interacting with different cultures is truly at the heart of the game.

GENSHIN IMPACT OFFERS LIMITLESS CONTENT

The range of possibilities that help the player to progress and develop the characters is impressive. A separate cooking mode provides the characters with culinary dishes. With attributes you can accelerate their healing and secure advantages in battle. Weapons can also be found in chests all over the world and later improved at the blacksmith. You can unlock constellations as the game progresses and give the character new attacks. At every corner you are rewarded with loot for mastered achievements, which promotes the gaming experience and is one of the reasons for success with players. Genshin Impact is also constantly updated with new content. So it doesn’t get boring – on the contrary.

A journey around the globe awaits you in “Genshin Impact”.

APP STRUGGLES WITH TECHNICAL OBSTACLES

There are many things that Genshin Impact does great, but this game also sometimes struggles with the technical requirements. Every now and then there are one or the other lag, no question about it. Especially annoying in combat, but that doesn’t happen often and never lasts long. The game has the ability to recover fairly reliably and pick up where it hooked without loss. However, I can also say that no hour of play goes on without a server breakdown. Open the app again, load everything and start all over again. At bad times even about five times an hour. Most of the time I can live with that as the gameplay is too good to be beaten. Sometimes, however, I don’t open the app again, even if I’m annoyed.

For me, “Genshin Impact” is a game that is worth discovering and not just playing. It is clear that the wheel was not reinvented. However, it doesn’t have to be. In any case, it is not a cheap copy that tries to build on the success of “Breath of the Wild”. Where other games need their own console, “Genshin Impact” runs great on every smartphone, despite technical obstacles here and there. For me it is clearly one of the best mobile games, if not the best.
