The US car manufacturer Fisker wants to build a car plant in Europe. Among other things, Germany is also in focus. The mid-range vehicle Pear will then be produced in the planned plant.
“We are currently considering building the Pear in Europe,” explained founder Henrik Fisker to the “Handelsblatt” . This could be done in cooperation, also known as a joint venture, with a partner or on your own. A precise decision should be made in the middle of next year. The mid-range vehicle Pear is a future car from the group and should be available for less than 30,000 euros, according to Henrik Fisker. This would mean that the company, Tesla and also the German car manufacturers would compete properly. “The German premium manufacturers and even the normal manufacturers are withdrawing from the market for cheap vehicles,” explained Fisker. “With their premium strategy, Mercedes , BMW and VWalbeit very short-term gains. Ultimately, however, this will not last.”
FISKER PEAR: MANUFACTURING INITIALLY IN THE USA?
The current plan: From 2024, the Pear will initially be built by Foxconn in the old Lordstown factory in the US state of Ohio. The possible production in Europe is also being examined. “It could be that we buy an existing plant,” Fisker told the business newspaper. “If we start from scratch anywhere in Eastern Europe, we have to train people. And it takes longer to ramp up production.” Another problem is the high energy costs in Germany .
However, the considerations as to where exactly production of the Fisker Pear could start in Europe are not yet complete. A location on the European mainland definitely makes sense. By 2025, four to five models from the manufacturer should be available. In parallel with the Pear and the Ocean, Fisker is planning a luxury GT sports car, an SUV coupe, a sports sedan and a pick-up truck.
THE MANUFACTURER IS ALREADY REPORTING HIGH NUMBERS
The electric car manufacturer only wants to deliver 15 vehicles this year. In the first quarter of next year there will be 300 units, and in the second quarter of 2023 well over 8,000 vehicles. Fisker plans to produce 42,400 all-electric cars in the coming year. The demand for the Fisker Ocean with a starting price of 41,560 euros is already high in this country. “We had expected 50,000 reservations by the end of the year.” According to reports, there are currently 63,000 orders, by the end of the year it could be over 80,000.
