iPhone camera gets better: iOS 15 erases this annoying effect

The iOS 15 beta is in full swing. This means that testers keep discovering minor innovations that Apple has not officially announced. In the current case, it is an improvement on the iPhone camera.

A user of reddit first drew attention to the latest innovation in the iPhone camera . According to the description, Apple’s software automatically removes an annoying reflection in iOS 15 Beta 4, which appears in the form of “green dots” in younger iPhone models.

IOS 15 BETA 4: IPHONE CAMERA RETOUCHED “GREEN DOTS”

Anyone who owns an up-to-date iPhone should have already noticed these reflections, which occur under certain lighting conditions. A green dot appears here, which appears, for example, when the sun shines directly or sideways into the camera. This effect, known in English as “green orb” or more generally simply as “lens flare”, is now recognized in iOS 15 Beta 4 and automatically removed by the software. The iPhone camera has apparently been cautious so far and only intervenes when retouching is possible without problems. The following example shows the effect on the left side of the photo:

According to the reports, the software does not remove the effect if the background is too complex, for example in front of leaves in a tree. However, if the reflection appears in front of “simple backgrounds”, such as a blue sky or grass, the automatic correction takes effect.

NEW FUNCTION WITH RESTRICTIONS

However, there are other limitations to the new iPhone camera feature. As the

developers of the alternative camera app Halide describe on Twitter , at least an iPhone XR or iPhone XS is required. It is not known whether this will be different in a final version. At the same time, photos in RAW format and the animations of a live photo also supposedly remain untouched. However, the “still image” of a live photo will be revised.

It remains to be seen whether Apple’s automatic retouching will also be included in the final version of iOS 15. We are currently expecting a presentation next September, at the same time as the presentation of the iPhone 13 . Anyone who wants to get an idea of the new software now can take part in the public beta program . In addition to iOS 15, you can also test iPadOS 15 , macOS Monterey and watchOS 8 .
