As the year draws to a close, things are anything but calm for computer manufacturers. The CES opens its doors shortly after Christmas. And Lenovo has already hinted at what can be expected of its ThinkPads and the matching ThinkVision monitors in the coming year.

Sustainability is one of the defining issues of our day. Dell only recently presented a notebook that is said to be characterized by the choice of materials and easy repairability. And Lenovo doesn’t ignore the trend either: Both with the ThinkPad X1 Carbon and the ThinkPad X1 Yoga will in future use far more recycled materials than before.
LENOVO THINKPAD X1 CARBON AND THINKPAD X1 YOGA: SUSTAINABILITY AND THE SALE OF INDULGENCES
For example, the palm rest of the first laptop consists of 90 percent recycled magnesium. The substructure is made from 55 percent recycled aluminum. In addition, the packaging uses natural raw materials and recycled cardboard. And if that’s not enough, you can use Lenovo’s CO2 Offset Service to directly offset the carbon footprint of manufacturing, shipping and operating over a five-year period.
14-inch diagonal displays
The biggest difference between the Thinkpad X1 Carbon and the X1 Yoga is the hinge. While the X1 Carbon is a classic notebook, Lenovo usually associates the term “Yoga” with a convertible. This allows you to rotate the screen 360° so that a tablet mode is available.
In contrast, no difference is made in the size of the displays. In both cases, the diagonals measure 14 inches. Lenovo mostly uses IPS panels with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels. Only the top models of the series use OLEDs with a resolution of 2.8K to 4K.
Efficiency gains for better performance
Inside the two notebooks, however, things are less ecologically conscious. The 13th generation of Intel core processors is again somewhat more efficient than the previous one, but energy savings tend to benefit performance: According to rumors, the successor to the current i7-1260P should have two more power cores and also increase the clock speed. It is doubtful that these measures will lead to lower energy consumption.
In terms of performance, however, the new processor generation should increase significantly again and generate considerable additional performance in both single and multi-core applications compared to the 12th series. And the performance-hungry will also be happy that more RAM can be used with the new chips. Up to 64 GB in LPDDR5 format is now possible.
LENOVO THINKVISION: MATCHING SCREENS FOR X1 CARBON AND YOGA
Lenovo presents the matching screens for the two new notebooks. The two mini LED monitors in the series are available as the P27pz-30 and P32pz-30 in sizes of 27 and 31.5 inches. The displays are based on IPS technology and deliver high resolutions of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. They should also impress with a high level of color fidelity: both the DCI-P3 and the Adobe RGB color space are represented at 99 percent with a color depth of 10 bits.
On the desk, the two height-adjustable screens also shine with a variety of connections. In addition to a DisplayPort and HDMI 2.1, the latest USB Type A and C standards are available, and there is even a Gbit LAN connection. An additional switch is thus superfluous.
ThinkVision p49w-30: Lots of width with a curve
As with the monitors mentioned above, the ThinkVision p49w-30 is also based on IPS technology, but offers a panel with a diagonal of 49 inches and a resolution of 5,120 x 1,440 pixels. This results in an aspect ratio of 32:9. A curved version is used to increase ergonomics, with the screen curvature of 3800R underlining the size of the display. The screen, which can be adjusted in height and angle, is just as easy to connect with a total of 13 ports.
ThinkVision T series: the main thing is video telephony
If video calls in the home office are part of the standard application, the monitors of the T series should be recommended. They have simpler displays that come with diagonals of 24 or 27 inches and resolutions of 1,920 x 1,080 or 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. The frame rate is slightly higher at 75 Hz. The real unique selling point, however, is the front camera, which Lenovo puts on top. Thanks to a button on the front panel, you are always ready for video calls, and the image quality of 5 megapixels should be sufficient for detailed conversations. Loudspeakers with an output of 5 watts counteract difficulties in understanding.
