Lenovo’s new high-end laptop: Two displays – twice as good?

As in previous years, Lenovo fought a material battle at CES 2023 that is second to none. One of the most exciting devices is the YogaBook 9i. The laptop has a second display installed instead of a keyboard.

Lenovo has never held back when it comes to exciting new interpretations of the laptop topic . Whether it’s the Thinkpad X1 Fold, which only consists of a foldable display, or the new ThinkBook Plus Twist, which combines a normal and an e-ink display in one laptop lid: Lenovo’s experiments are often spectacular, but not very successful .

NEW EXPERIMENT MODEL

And that’s where the new YogaBook 9i comes in. Because that could offer the potential for a product that is also financially strong. But is that really the case? We took a look at the dual-monitor laptop at CES 2023 in Las Vegas and give you a first impression of it.

You can find all technical data and details on the presentation of the other models in our presentation articles on the new YogaBook and the ThinkBook Plus Twist, which is also fresh:

LENOVO YOGABOOK 9I TOUCHED

When trying it out for the first time at the CES in Las Vegas, the YogaBook 9i convinces with its processing, which is typical for Lenovo. The case feels high-quality and the folding hinge makes a robust impression. This is also confirmed when you fold it: the two halves of the YogaBook 9i are stable at every angle and nothing works unplanned. It can also be folded a full 180 degrees , as is typical for yoga . The resolution and brilliance of the displays are also convincing.

It is questionable whether the various usage options of the YogaBook 9i are not too much of a good thing. In the first test, everything works as desired. However, it’s difficult to remember all the hand gestures and screen options that are available. The additional physical keyboard provides further possibilities, which, however, mean even more complexity.

The suspicion arises that every user will only select two to three layouts in everyday life and actually does not use the large number of options at all. However, if you are aware of this limitation, the YogaBook 9i can be an exciting device for those who find the possibilities of an ordinary laptop too small.
