LG back in the smartphone business – but different than expected

LG has withdrawn from the smartphone market. Now, however, cell phones appear to be finding their way back into LG’s stores in the future. The highlight: There will be no LG cell phones. Instead, the South Korean manufacturer appears to be pursuing a different plan.

LG

LG made a momentous decision in April 2021 and said goodbye to its smartphone division . However, the company’s sales structure cannot be dissolved overnight – especially since the manufacturer sells numerous other products such as computers and televisions in addition to cell phones. Now LG appears to have reportedly found a solution to the dilemma. The South Korean sells smartphones again – those from Apple .

LG SELLS IPHONES

In its home country South Korea, LG has 400 so-called “LG Best Shops”. According to the Herald Economic Daily portal , LG would like to use the available retail space soon to sell Apple’s iPhones, iPads and the Apple Watch. According to the report, however, MacBooks are in competition with LG’s own computers. This is why these will not be sold through the LG stores in the future either.

THE IMPLEMENTATION RAISES QUESTIONS

It is currently unclear how the project will actually be implemented. LG could, for example, give Apple products their own area or simply put them on their own shelves. However, the two manufacturers don’t have much time left for planning. Because according to the report, sales should start as early as next month.

The first rumors of such a LG-Apple partnership appeared a few weeks ago. An official statement from LG or Apple has so far not been made.

WHAT CAN LG SMARTPHONE OWNERS EXPECT?

Although the South Korean manufacturer has withdrawn from smartphone production, many users still have an LG mobile phone. That’s why LG promised that upper-class smartphones from the V, G, Wing and Velvet series, which came on the market from 2019, will be provided with updates for three years. This means that users can expect version updates to Android 12 or even Android 13. All other LG phones that came out in 2020 are slated to receive updates for two years. So these should also be equipped with Android 13 in the course of time.
