3 Nokia 6310: New Classic

The new smartphone is called Nokia XR20 and is part of Nokia’s high-end series . That is why it also offers premium features such as wireless charging or 5G mobile communications. But the most important part is the robust housing. The phone is in a robust plastic housing and has the latest Gorilla Glass Victus installed. With this design, Nokia achieved the military standard MIL-STD-810 and survived falls from up to 1.8 meters. In addition, the robust smartphone is waterproof according to the IP68 standard, so it can survive for up to 1 hour in a water depth of up to 1.5 meters. However, this robustness also has its price: The Nokia XR20 weighs an impressive 248 grams.

In order to underline your own trust in durability, the phone in Europe is equipped with a three-year guarantee and one year of free display replacement should something break.

WHAT’S IN THE NOKIA XR20?

An astonishingly weak Snapdragon 480 processor with just 4 or 6 gigabytes of RAM is hidden under the robust housing. This is the cheapest processor with 5G support from Qualcomm. This is found, among other things, in the Oppo A54 5G , which is only half as expensive – which we criticized in the test for its below-average performance.

However, it could help that Nokia relies on pure Android without complex software adjustments. So you deliver the phone with Android 11 and guarantee 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of monthly security updates. That’s top notch.

A 6.67-inch IPS panel with full HD resolution is used for the screen. The special feature here is the aforementioned Gorilla Glass Victus, which is otherwise only found in premium smartphones such as the Galaxy S21 Ultra or Mi 11 Ultra .

The main camera triggers with 48 megapixels, and a 13 megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens is also available. The front camera delivers 8 megapixels. Other features include a freely assignable button for starting apps or the Google Assistant, a fingerprint sensor in the frame and stereo speakers. The battery measures 4,630 mAh and can be charged via USB- C or wirelessly. Like Samsung and Apple , Nokia does not include a power plug in its premium models.

Price and availability
The new Nokia XR20 is now available in two memory configurations. The basic model offers 4/64 gigabytes and a variant with 6/128 gigabytes is available for an additional charge. The internal memory can, however, also be expanded using a microSD card. The global price for the basic version is 499 euros in Germany and Austria, while the upgraded version costs 579 euros. The Swiss only get the large version in gray at an exchange rate of 599 Swiss francs.

99 EURO SMARTPHONE FROM HMD GLOBAL: THE NOKIA C30

In addition to the robust Nokia XR20, hmd-global – the company behind the Nokia brand is launching another smartphone. This is the budget smartphone Nokia C30 . The highlight of this model is a particularly large 6.82 inch display, which only has a resolution of 720p.

Nokia C30: Less than 100 euros and with old technology

The other equipment includes a 13 megapixel main camera, a 5 megapixel front camera and a headphone connection. The 6000 mAh battery will also be charged via micro USB in 2021 . Fortunately, Nokia supplies a cable and power adapter. A three-year-old processor from the rather unknown manufacturer Unisoc with 8 cores and a performance of up to 1.6 gigahertz works in the smartphone. The internal memory is 32 or 64 gigabytes, depending on the variant, and the RAM is 2 or 3 gigabytes in size.

In order to achieve a performance that is suitable for everyday use with this hardware equipment, the Nokia C30 uses Android 11 Go – a slimmed-down version of the operating system that is specially optimized for budget smartphones. Updates to newer Android versions are not planned. The important security updates, on the other hand, are made available every quarter for two years.

The Nokia C30 is available for a global price of 99 euros. With this model, the prices in this country may still differ.

NOKIA 6310: NEW CLASSIC

In addition to the two unusual but still normal smartphones, HMD Global also has a new classic up its sleeve. The Nokia 6310 is set to revive the noughties. The key phone offers one thing above all: battery life. Nokia speaks of weeks of standby and a 1,150 mAh battery. It feeds a Unisoc processor and a 2.8-inch display in QVGA resolution.

According to HMD Global, there is also a narrow 16 MB memory and 8 MB RAM. As an alternative to the second SIM, the dual SIM slot also accepts a micro SD card , which can expand the data repository by up to 32 GB. Bluetooth 5 and an unspecified WLAN variant are used for radio communication . An FM radio and a camera should not be missing either, with the latter having a very economical 0.3 megapixel resolution.

HMD Global will bring the Nokia 6310 to Germany in August and is asking for the name-fitting price of 63.10 euros.
