The new update dubbed “One UI 5.1” has already arrived on some flagship smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S22 series in the past week. But now numerous other smartphones can also enjoy the new functions. Including cheaper phones from the Galaxy A series.

NEW FEATURE FOR YOUR SAMSUNG SMARTPHONE

The list of new features in One UI 5.1 is extensive. In addition to innovations for the camera and the gallery app, there are also some new functions for the system itself. These are the highlights:

Camera & Photo Gallery

With “Expert RAW” Samsung has been offering a second camera app for some time . The app is aimed at photography fans who want to get more out of their smartphone’s camera. As the name suggests, recordings in RAW format are possible, which can then be better edited with Lightroom and Co. afterwards. You will also find other modes there, such as an “astrophotography mode” or “multiple exposures”. With One UI 5.1, Samsung integrates a shortcut to Expert RAW into the normal camera app. This makes it easier for you to switch between the two apps.

The Expert RAW app is available for download for the Galaxy S21 Ultra as well as for all Galaxy S22 and S23 smartphones in the Galaxy Store.

But the normal camera app also gets a small improvement. For example, you can change the hue of selfies from “natural” to a slightly softer “warm”.

Many innovations can be found in the gallery app. Here it is now possible to create shared albums that can be filled with photos by multiple users. The photo search has also been improved. Now you can search for multiple people, places, or objects to find the photo you’re looking for.

You can also swipe up on each captured image for more details. There you will see where and when you took the picture and where it is saved.

New look for your home screen

With One UI 5.1, Samsung brings a new battery widget to your home screen. With this you can not only see the battery status of your smartphone, but also the batteries of connected accessories such as headphones or a smartwatch.

You can also create a separate background image for each focus mode. This makes it easier for you to see which mode you are currently in. Or choose a more serious background image for work.

Many more features

That was not all. You will discover new functions in many other Samsung apps. For example, more detailed information in the weather app or suggestions in the settings. You can also invite other users to collaborate in the Gallery, Samsung Notes and Calendar apps with a link via Messenger.

The improved media output via WLAN speakers is also practical . Functions such as Spotify Connect or Chromecast can thus be called up directly via the toolbar and no longer only in the respective apps.

THESE SAMSUNG SMARTPHONES GET THE UPDATE

In the coming weeks, the update will probably be available to every Samsung smartphone with Android 13 ( complete list ). The update is currently being distributed for the entire Galaxy S20 , S21 and S22 series as well as the Note 20 and Flip&Fold 3 and 4. The two popular mid-range smartphones Galaxy A53 and A33 are already getting the update – but not yet in Germany. However, this can change within a few days.

To check whether the update is already available for your smartphone, go to the “Software update” option in the settings and then to “Download and install”.
