The TV market is huge. If you are planning a new purchase, you can lose track of things. Whether it’s Samsung , LG, Sony or Philips : All manufacturers are constantly offering new models in different sizes and with different features. And as our 2023 bargain calendar shows, there is no better time of the year to buy a new TV than now. Stiftung Warentest tested over 165 televisions between 24 and 65 inches this year and last. And one model in particular stands out. Because it is not only one of the best currently available on the market. It only costs 700 euros.

THE BEST TV AND THE CHEAP ALTERNATIVE

The best TV in the Stiftung Warentest test is the LG OLED55C27LA. The testers gave the TV the grade “good” (1.6). If you want to put the test winner in your living room, you need a lot of space and money. Because at 55 inches (1.4 meters) the television is not exactly small and at around 1,400 euros it is really not a bargain either.

The LG OLED48A29LA is significantly cheaper and almost as good as the current best television in the test. The model is a bit smaller at 48 inches (1.22 meters), but it also gets the grade “good” (1.8). And best of all: The TV set is currently available for around 700 euros . By the way: Amazon charges more than 900 euros for the television .

SELF-ILLUMINATING PIXELS AND EXCELLENT SOUND

The LG OLED TV has self-illuminating pixels that light up independently. This means that dark areas appear in perfect black, without light bleeding or halo effects . In addition to a sharp image, the sound is also convincing in the test. According to LG, the TV’s processor recognizes ordinary 2-channel audio sound and upscales it to virtual 5.1.2-channel sound. Apparently, this works so well that the testers from Stiftung Warentest gave the TV the grade “very good” (1.4) for the sound.

Only the “satisfactory” environmental properties did not make the overall grade even better. The testers complain about the power consumption here. Calculated with 4 hours a day in operation and 20 hours in standby, with an electricity price of 40 cents per kWh, the current annual consumption is just under 34 euros. Monthly costs of 2.80 euros are incurred with the television.
