The Chinese manufacturer, known as the flagship killer, now wants to conquer the middle class with the OnePlus Nord 2. You want to convince buyers with highlights in the display, the battery and the camera equipment. But can that work?
The mid-range cell phone market is highly competitive. Samsung and Xiaomi in particular are flooding this area with countless models. The manufacturer OnePlus , which has specialized in flagship killers for a long time, also wants to get involved. With the OnePlus Nord 2 , the Chinese want to win over all those buyers who have set themselves the pain threshold of 400 euros when buying a mobile phone. This should succeed with brilliant cameras, a large and sharp AMOLED display and stereo speakers.
ONEPLUS NORD 2: YOU CAN GET THAT FOR 400 EUROS
The Far East manufacturer recently launched the OnePlus Nord CE. Our test shows that it is probably the strongest and best alternative to the extremely popular Samsung Galaxy A52 . The OnePlus Nord 2, on the other hand, is priced a step higher at around 400 euros and competes more with the Galaxy A72 .
The smartphone has a 6.43-inch display that resolves images and videos in full HD with 2,400 x 1,080 pixels. In addition, the AMOLED screen of the OnePlus Nord 2 has a refresh rate of 90 Hz, which makes the scrolling appear smoother. In addition, there is an AI resolution upgrade that upscales content from apps such as YouTube in HD resolution.
For reasons of cost, OnePlus uses the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor. The chip is cheaper than Qualcomm’s counterpart. According to OnePlus, however, it should be comparable to the Snapdragon 870 in terms of performance. But whether MediaTek or Qualcomm: In the end, the mobile phone user will not care if the smartphone runs smoothly. The working memory of up to 12 GB should also contribute to this.
In addition to the display and 4,500 mAh battery with flash charging, the camera equipment should be another highlight. Behind the main lens with optical image stabilization (OIS) is a 50-megapixel sensor from Sony (IMX766). The same sensor also takes photos in the top models of the OnePlus 9 series.
There is also an ultra-wide-angle camera. Compared to the Galaxy A72 , OnePlus does without a telephoto focal length in the Nord 2. The up to 10x zoom is therefore exclusively digital. The front camera, however, also comes with a Sony sensor that can display 32 million pixels.
THE DECISION BEFORE BUYING
OnePlus will launch the Nord 2 on July 28th in two colors: matt gray and polished blue. When you buy it, you have to decide how much storage you need, as it cannot be expanded. Either you choose the version with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB internal memory, or you choose the version with 12 GB RAM and a 256 GB data repository. The prices are 399 and 499 euros, respectively.
