Nokia is no longer the market leader in the smartphone market. But with their latest smartphone you can do something that Samsung , Apple and Co. can’t do so cheaply. We introduce you to the new smartphone.
Nokia stopped making smartphones a long time ago . Instead, the brand name is licensed to HMD Global. However, like Nokia, they are based in Espoo, Finland and employ many of the former Nokia employees. They have given up the high-end market, but are still trying to make cheaper smartphones with a focus on sustainability. The latest model in the series: the Nokia G22 for 180 euros.
YOU CAN REPAIR THE NOKIA G22 YOURSELF
At first glance, the new Nokia G22 is an inconspicuous mid-range smartphone. But the smartphone is fully geared towards sustainability. For example, the back and the included case are made of recycled plastic. But great importance is also attached to repairability.
HMD Global offers many spare parts for the smartphone inexpensively via the iFixit spare parts platform . A new battery costs 25 euros, a screen 50 euros and a new charging socket 20 euros. These spare parts should also remain available after the warranty period has expired. In addition, instructions are also provided that explain the repair at home.
Alternatively, the smartphone can also be subscribed to via Nokia Circular. Here you do not buy the smartphone, but pay a one-time fee of 35 euros and a monthly subscription of 10 euros. If your smartphone is damaged or stolen, Nokia will repair it or replace it.
LONG GUARANTEE – ALSO FOR UPDATES
Like its sister models, the Nokia G22 comes with a 3-year guarantee . And the updates are also promised to be supported for a comparatively long time. While other smartphones in this price range rarely receive regular updates, Nokia guarantees the smartphone two years of Android updates and a full three years of monthly security updates.

GOOD SUPPORT – WEAK HARDWARE
The Nokia G22 has a Unisoc T606 processor with 4 gigabytes of RAM. In terms of performance, this chip, which is more than three years old, has to admit defeat to other mid-range smartphones such as the Huawei P20 Lite from 2019. Thus, the smartphone is only suitable for undemanding tasks such as writing WhatsApp messages or searching for a connection for the next train journey. Playing, editing photos or using several apps at the same time shouldn’t be much fun with it. It is also questionable how the performance will look after a few years and several updates.
But the Nokia G22 is designed for precisely this target group, who only need their smartphone a little. The 720p screen and weak processor do not require a lot of power and together with the 5,000 mAh battery, the smartphone should easily last 3 to 4 days in standby. Combined with the long update support and cheap spare parts, the Nokia G22 is a worry-free smartphone for occasional use.
