Popular film series with Johnny Depp declared dead – that’s behind it

It is one of the most popular film series that has spawned the 2000s: “Pirates of the Caribbean”. Now the story should be breathed new life. But there is bad news for fans. We’ll show you what it’s all about.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” series starring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow is one of the cult films of the 2000s. After six parts, in which Depp played, it was over – at least for the time being. Attempts to revive the pirate films were on the agenda, but are apparently failing now.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: A DESTINY NOW ENDING

Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Swann), Orlando Bloom (Will Turner) got out after the third part of “Pirates of the Caribbean”. Only Johnny Depp remained true to his Jack Sparrow – with only mediocre success. Disney apparently planned to breathe new life into the cult series in the form of a spin-off.

Instead of the twisted Jack Sparrow, this time the focus should be on female heroes in order to make the entire franchise more diverse and more female overall. Margot Robbie, known from films like “I, Tonya” or “The Wolf of Wall Street”, was to play the main characters in the spin-off. But in an exclusive cover story with US magazine Vanity Fair , Robbie revealed that the Pirates of the Caribbean spin-off has been put on hold . The screenplay was to be penned by Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson.

“We had the idea that we came up with ages ages ago that would have been spearheaded by women – but not just women. It would have been a different story. We thought they were pretty cool, but I guess [Disney] doesn’t want to do them,” Robbie told Vanity Fair. However, the exact reasons for the departure remain unclear.

WILL PART 6 OF THE PIRATE FILM COME ANYWAY?

Despite this, it is rumored that Disney is still working on a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film. The Mouse House still owns all the rights to the film series. The new part would then probably have to do without Margot Robbie and also without Johnny Depp. However, there are no more precise details or updates on the production, so it remains unclear whether this project will also be scrapped.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (Part Five) was released in 2017 and received only mixed reviews. On the film platform Rotten Tomatoes , for example, the film was rated positively with only 30 percent.
