Replaceable battery at last: These big players bring back the beloved feature

Mobile communications are to Deutsche Telekom what smartphones are to Samsung. Both are pioneers in their field. Now the companies are joining forces and want to realize a crazy project.

Samsung Galaxy A72

Samsung and Deutsche Telekom . Initially, this connection is only suspected to be behind a new mobile phone offering including a smartphone. In this case it’s different because it’s about a new project that both companies want to bring to market together. It’s about your own smartphone. And that should be one thing above all: sustainable.

This brings back memories of the Dutch manufacturer Fairphone , whose focus was on making the cell phone as durable and fair as possible. According to reports, the specifications at Samsung and Telekom are not that tight. But a well-known feature should still come back.

CELL PHONES FROM SAMSUNG AND TELEKOM – IT SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO THAT

What was common up until a few years ago crept out of the cell phone market over time. Smartphones are uniform, i.e. most of the components are permanently installed. This angered users, especially when it comes to the battery. Because back then you could easily replace the old one yourself with a fresh unit, but nowadays it is associated with costs and effort. This is exactly where the South Korean-German product wants to remedy the situation. And it relies on the population’s awareness of sustainability, which is becoming more and more popular.

According to information so far, the “eco-cell phone” will have a replaceable battery . It is not yet known whether Samsung and the Bonn-based wireless operator will also rely on a completely modular system or work with recycled materials. What is certain, however, is that the cell phone will support the current 5G cellular standard. Further technical data on the cell phone are still in the dark at the moment.

SALES START OF THE GREEN SMARTPHONE

According to Telekom, the “green smartphone” should appear on the market at the end of 2022. It remains to be seen whether the device will be more expensive than “normal” models due to the modularity, the recycled material or simply because of the green trend. Price expectations are also still few and far between. Only together can we meet the challenges of climate change and create a better future for all of us, ”explains Claudia Nemat, Member of the Board of Management for Technology and Innovation at Telekom.
