Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro: Is the upgrade worth it?

Along with the Galaxy S23 smartphones, Samsung also introduced new notebooks. The Galaxy Book3 Pro has been redesigned from the ground up and presents itself as a stylish notebook for work and at home. We compared it to its predecessor.

The new Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro

Externally, the dimensions of the Galaxy Book3 Pro have not changed. Furthermore, Samsung offers the notebook in two sizes. Instead of 13.3 and 15.6 inches, however, now in 14 and 16 inches. Thinner display edges make it possible for Samsung to install a larger display with the same case dimensions.

HIGH QUALITY METAL CASE

Despite the high-quality aluminum housing, the Galaxy Book3 Pro is pleasantly light. The 14-inch model weighs just 1.17 kilograms. And the 16-inch model is also very light for its size at 1.56 kilos.

Samsung also installs a chiclet keyboard with comfortable keystrokes and a large trackpad. The 14-inch version of the Galaxy Book3 Pro is 24 percent larger than its predecessor. The trackpad of the 16-inch model is even 39 percent larger.

ULTRA SCREENS IN THE GALAXY BOOK3 PRO

This year, Samsung presented an Ultra model of its notebooks for the first time. However, with prices starting at 2,799 euros, this model is more for users with high performance requirements. So it’s nice to see that a highlight feature of the Galaxy Book3 Ultra is also available for the Galaxy Book3 Pro. We’re talking about the first-class display.

Because this is not only larger on the Galaxy Book3 Pro, but also much sharper than on the Galaxy Book2 Pro. Furthermore, Samsung relies on AMOLED panels from its own production, which are said to score points with more brilliant colors and real black compared to conventional LCDs. However, the resolution is now 2,880 x 1,800, i.e. 3K. Last year’s model still used Full HD here. In addition, a faster refresh rate of 120 Hertz instead of the previous 60 Hertz is used for the first time. This is often neglected, but makes a big difference in everyday work, since every mouse movement and every scroll appears smoother.

FOR THE FIRST TIME ALSO WITH 360 DEGREE HINGE AND TOUCH

Samsung is also offering its Pro notebook with a touchscreen for the first time. The Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 is only available in the 16-inch version and offers all the advantages of the normal Galaxy Book3 Pro. In addition, you can fold the screen completely with the 360 degree hinge and use the notebook as a giant tablet. An S Pen for writing, marking and drawing is included.

The Galaxy Book3 Pro is also available with a 360 hinge

BETTER CONNECTIONS – MORE PERFORMANCE

The Galaxy Book3 Pro notebooks are also equipped with a large number of full connections. So you have two USB -C, one USB-A, HDMI, a microSD slot and a jack connection available. All three USB ports comply with the latest USB 3.2 standard. For the first time, both USB-C ports also support Thunderbolt 4. With the predecessor, this was reserved for only one of the two ports. This is particularly useful when connecting to a notebook dock or an external graphics card. Two 4K monitors, data storage, keyboard, mouse and a LAN connection can be connected to the notebook with a single Thunderbolt 4 cable.

The power supply also runs via the USB-C ports. A corresponding 65 watt power supply is included and can charge not only the Galaxy Book3 Pro but also the new smartphones of the Galaxy S23 series at top speed.

When it comes to the processor, you can choose between a 13th generation Intel Core i5 and Core i7. This is available with either 8 or 16 gigabytes of RAM. For your data, Samsung installs a fast PCIe SSD with 256 gigabytes, 512 gigabytes or 1 terabyte.

TWO EARLY BIRD OFFERS FOR THE GALAXY BOOK3 PRO

With the Galaxy Book3 Pro, Samsung has stayed true to the concept of the series. The biggest highlight of the new generation are the displays. With the same housing dimensions, they are larger, significantly sharper and offer a faster refresh rate. For the first time, there is even an optional touch function including S Pen support. An upgrade from last year’s model is unlikely to offer this for most, but if you’re looking for a new notebook, the new Galaxy Book3 Pro is an excellent choice.

You can secure two pre-order promotions at Saturn until the end of February: Double memory and an external SSD free of charge. Because with the “memory upgrade” campaign, you get twice the memory for the price of the cheaper model. For example, the 1 TB model is available at the price of the 512 GB version.

If you register your notebook under this link after purchase , Samsung will also give you a portable SSD with a capacity of one terabyte. This is the ” 1 TB Portable SSD T7 Shield ” worth around 100 euros.
