4th Conclusion on Scarlet Nexus
On June 25th, the time has come, Scarlet Nexus arrives on our consoles from far away Japan. You can find out all the details that are already known about the game here.
THE STORY OF SCARLET NEXUS
The most important thing about any single-player action game is without a doubt the story. Scarlet Nexus is a story that takes place in an alternate reality. In the game world, scientists have discovered a psyker hormone in the brain that gives its wearer superhuman powers. With this discovery a new age dawned, but this also brought mutants, so-called “others” with it. These mutants hunger for human brains and would do anything for them.
At the beginning of the game, the player has the option of choosing between two protagonists. The choice is between a male and a female character, Yuito Sumeragi and Kasane Randall. Both characters come to you with their own backstory and personality. The main goal of the story is to find out what is really hidden behind the mysterious origin of the “other”.
GAMEPLAY
As already known from similar anime storytelling games, Scarlet Nexus also rarely works with actual cutscenes and a large part of the storytelling takes place via dialogues. These can seem a bit strange at first due to some interesting design elements, but testers of the game were able to quickly gain an overview.
The combat system of Scarlet Nexus is dynamic and bursts with special moves and striking animations. A major aspect of any conflict is the psychokinetic struggle, through which the superhuman powers of the protagonists come to light. It allows you to turn your surroundings into a weapon. Defeat your opponent by hurling objects at him and destroying them. At the latest in the fight against the mutated “others” you will have to make use of your abilities. They are immune to common attacks.
JAPANESE ANIME MEETS SCIENCE FICTION
Bandai Namco describes the world of Scarlet Nexus as a fusion of Japanese anime and Western science fiction. Because of the great focus on the human brain, Bandai-Namco also described the game as “brain punk”. “Brain-Punk” as such is not an established genre, so Scarlet Nexus has the opportunity to shape the new genre for itself.
A first look into the game world of Scarlet Nexus will probably make the hearts of every science fiction fan beat faster. At first glance, the design is reminiscent of a future similar to Blade Runner, and Cyberpunk 2077 will probably also come to mind for many. Bright neon signs and skyscrapers covered by billboards and signs dominate the area.
The reference to science fiction cannot be overlooked when it comes to the design of the “others”. They combine both parts of a living organism and mechanical components. The resulting image is grotesque and provocative, making it perfect for dangerous mutants who threaten our world.
CONCLUSION ON SCARLET NEXUS
It has already been possible for some testers to get their hands on a trial version of Scarlet Nexus. All in all, the first impressions were quite positive. On Metacritic, the game already achieved a rating of 81, based on the opinion of 13 testers. From 100 to 50 everything was included in the scores, but the majority are around 80 points.
The combat system, which according to testers is the star of the show, was particularly positive. So if you like an exciting story combined with extraordinary gameplay, then Scarlet Nexus is the game for you. The game for PC, PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S will be launched on June 25th.
