A year ago, Subaru’s first all-electric all-wheel drive SUV, the Subaru Solterra, was officially announced. It is now available in Germany and the price for the futuristic-looking electric car has also been fixed.
The Subaru Solterra – whose name derives from the Latin words for sun (sol) and earth (terra) – is in direct competition with the Toyota BZ4X , which is built on the same platform. As you would expect from Subaru, all-wheel drive is on board. An electric motor with an output of 80 kW (109 hp) is installed on both the front and rear axles. As a result, a system output of 160 kW (218 hp) is available, which, according to the manufacturer, accelerates the five-door car, which weighs around two tons, from 0 to 100 km/h in just under seven seconds. The electric car reaches a top speed of 160 km/h.
SUBARU SOLTERRA: 150 KW CHARGING CAPACITY AT HPC CHARGING STATIONS
The WLTP range of the Solterra, extrapolated by Subaru, is between 416 and 466 kilometers depending on the model selected (see below). A 71.4 kWh lithium-ion battery is available for this purpose.
Somewhat surprising: The maximum possible AC charging power (alternating current) is only 7 kW. Actually, 11 kW is common for new cars today. If the battery is to be recharged at public charging stations using direct current, a peak charging capacity of 150 kW is possible under optimal conditions. Subaru then promises a recharge to 80 percent in around 30 minutes.
EXTENSIVE STANDARD EQUIPMENT
The entry-level Subaru Solterra comes with 18-inch alloy wheels. Two higher-quality equipment variants drive to their destination on 20-inch rims. An electrically opening and closing tailgate, heated seats and two-zone automatic air conditioning are also part of the standard equipment, as is a 12.3-inch touchscreen for controlling the radio and navigation system. A 7-inch digital cockpit can be found behind the steering wheel, which puts all important and driving-relevant information in the driver’s field of vision. Various assistance systems such as an emergency braking system with collision warning and traffic sign recognition are also on board.
HOW MUCH DOES THE SUBARU SOLTERRA COST?
The Subaru Solterra, which has a ground clearance of 21 centimeters and a wheelbase of 2.85 meters, will be available in three versions at the start of marketing. The basic model is called Comfort, and a Platinum and Platinum Plus version is also available. It starts at 57,490 euros (Comfort), 59,990 euros (Platinum) or 60,990 euros (Platinum plus). You can choose between seven paint finishes, and a heat pump is standard on board.
In contrast to the sister models, the comfort model lacks an alarm system, an audio system from Harman/Kardon and a Qi charging connection for the smartphone and an electrically adjustable passenger seat. As an extra, the Platinum Plus model is equipped with a panoramic glass roof with electrically adjustable sun visor.
Subaru grants an eight-year warranty on the Solterra up to a mileage of 160,000 kilometers. There is also an eight-year warranty on the high-voltage battery, twelve years against rusting through and three years against surface corrosion. A breakdown service including reimbursement of any return transport and accommodation costs is also available eight years after purchasing the Solterra.
