The expectations of a product have hardly ever been as high as they were tonight – and Apple seems to have met them all: The mobile phone, now sold under the name iPhone, was presented personally by CEO Steve Jobs as part of the keynote at the Macworld exhibition in San Francisco . The device is a lot in one: cell phone, iPod, video player, news center, internet browser are the most important functions among many others.

COMPLETELY DIFFERENT OPERATING CONCEPT
The Apple iPhone is difficult to compare with a classic cell phone, because it differs in many ways from conventional operating concepts: The phone does not have a classic keyboard, only one button and a full touchscreen are sufficient to operate the entire device. This is 3.5 inches and, unlike many Windows Mobile devices, is operated with your fingers. However, the fingers do not even have to touch the display, but are already recorded by a sensor.
LOTS OF SENSORS
Another sensor detects whether the iPhone is being held horizontally or vertically and automatically changes the display. If you move the mobile phone to your ear, the display switches off completely to save electricity.
TECHNICALLY UP TO DATE
The other technical data can be read as with many other mid-range or upper-class devices: The phone receives reception in quad-band as well as via WLAN, UMTS or Bluetooth 2.0. If you miss a call, you can record it directly on the phone. There is also a four or eight gigabyte memory in the device, which is available for media and music or videos. The mobile phone, which is just 11.6 millimeters thick, also has a 2 megapixel camera for taking pictures on the go.
WITH US AT THE END OF THE YEAR?
In the USA the device will be sold by Cingular from the middle of the year, in Germany it should be available from the end of the year. The prices are also fixed: the small version with four gigabytes of storage space will cost 499 dollars, the large version with eight gigabytes will cost 599 dollars.
