WhatsApp is now deleting your pictures and videos: that’s behind it

WhatsApp has more functions than many users know. Now there is another one that is already known from another app. From now on, the messenger will simply make your pictures and videos disappear.

WhatsApp will soon delete your pictures and videos: that’s behind it

WhatsApp is still heavily criticized. And yet it is still the most widely used messenger in this country . So that it stays that way, the makers try to keep their users happy with new functions. As with this feature that caused a sensation in another app a few years ago.

WHATSAPP MAKES PICTURES DISAPPEAR WITH A NEW FUNCTION

Imagine sending a picture or video to a contact on WhatsApp. Your contact looks at it and then the photo or video disappears forever. WhatsApp has now released exactly this function for all users of smartphones with Android, iOS, as well as for the web and desktop version. From now on you can send a picture or video and mark it accordingly. In the chat, your contact will not see the file immediately, but only that they have received a picture or video.

WhatsApp makes your pictures disappear

Now your contact in the chat on WhatsApp can tap on the chat window and view the file – but only once. The picture can then no longer be opened. It is also not stored in the recipient’s smartphone memory. However, on the software side, WhatsApp does not prevent you from taking a screenshot of the image. The creators have obviously made a conscious decision to allow screenshots. Because: there are several possibilities – for example with special apps – to bypass the screenshot recognition. As a sender, you would never find out whether someone took a screenshot, even though WhatsApp does not actually allow this. Instead of announcing a never-ending battle with such apps, WhatsApp prefers to indicate that the recipient can take a screenshot.

There are also ways to save a one-time displayed image. This includes taking a photo of it with another cell phone or camera. If you have sent a picture or video that your WhatsApp contact can only view once, you can also check whether the recipient has even opened and viewed the medium.

NEW FUNCTION IS NOT NEW

WhatsApp had been working on this feature since last year . Yet it is not new. Snapchat users had this option a long time ago. It was she who made the app so popular. This function is also already available for users of Signal, one of the largest WhatsApp competitors. Recently, “self-erasing messages” can be switched on in individual chats on WhatsApp. If you tap on the name of your contact or group at the top, you can turn them on. If this function is active, messages and pictures remain in the chat for 7 days and then disappear automatically. However, images and videos that have been sent can be downloaded and saved here within a week.
