WhatsApp has more functions than some people think. With one you can easily hide certain chats, for example from your jealous partner. But so far there has been a big problem with this trick. WhatsApp is now changing that.
WhatsApp is currently under enormous criticism. But although alternative messengers such as Signal, Threema or Telegram have registered many new members in recent months, WhatsApp remains installed on most smartphones. Whether it’s habit, the fact that you can’t find all the contacts with the alternative, or the indifference of what happens to the data: It’s hard to say why users prefer WhatsApp to other messengers. HIDING CHATS ON WHATSAPP: THERE IS ONE PROBLEM WITH THIS
Anyone who does not block their smartphone based on a vote of confidence, but still has one or the other secret, is in a personal mess. WhatsApp in particular receives messages that may not be intended for the eyes of the loved one. But there is a simple trick that can be used to hide such WhatsApp chats. But the trick has a loophole. If you get a new message from the contact, the chat reappears at the top of the list. In addition, the smartphone logs in and shows a new notification on WhatsApp. But the developers are revising the archive function and want to roll it out to all users of Android smartphones and iPhones soon.
IS THAT THE SOLUTION?
The new function has an advantage: If you move a certain chat on WhatsApp into the archive, it is automatically muted. This means that the messenger will not notify you when there are new messages in the chat. Archived messages remain permanently archived, even if you get a new message in the chat. On the one hand, this can provide more peace and quiet, especially during annoying group chats that you cannot leave for various reasons. On the other hand, certain chats can be better hidden.
But a trap is likely to remain. You can currently find archived chats on WhatsApp at the bottom of your chat list. The archived chats in the new archive will appear in a folder at the top of the chat list. There is no indication that there are unread messages in it. However, the folder attracts attention simply because it appears at the top of the list. If you don’t like the new function, you can switch back to the old archive function in the settings.
BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY
Either way, if the WhatsApp archive trick is too hot for you because you don’t know when your contact is texting you or because you’re worried that the folder over the chats will attract too much attention, you need a more drastic one Go step.
