WhatsApp: This function is a must for everyone – but it has a catch

Your WhatsApp homescreen is overflowing with chats. Countless people cavort there with whom you have long had nothing or only little to do with. If that annoys you, WhatsApp now has a new feature that you should definitely try out.

WhatsApp unlocks new, long-awaited functions

It just chatted away with some people. Unnecessary chats accumulate at the bottom of the WhatsApp home screen. Important messages or contacts are simply lost in the “chat corpses”. Another disadvantage: You have to look longer for the one contact that you like to write to and, above all, often.

In principle, you can delete orphaned chats or – a less tough step – simply archive them. “Simple” is simply said here. Because if this person writes you again at some point, the entire chat will come back with the message. The chaos is there.

At least until now. Because with the latest update, WhatsApp is playing a new function or the new system for the archive on your smartphone. This ensures more order in your chats – but one after the other.

With the new feature, the message histories that you moved to the archive will also remain there. If the respective person writes you again in the future, the chat will still be archived. This applies to both groups and individual chats. Because if a new message arrives in an archived WhatsApp group without you being explicitly mentioned, WhatsApp will not display this message to you. Ergo, the chat remains in the archive.

In the settings, however, you can manually bring individual chats back to the overview at any time.

THAT’S THE CATCH

Even though you ‘ve archived chats, you may still want to hear new messages. However, you can no longer do that unless you proactively approach the archived chats. Because new messages are only displayed to you in the archive itself as a small number next to the group chat. Similar to how it is the case with muted chats.
